So the nursery rhyme goes – ‘…or you’ll fall and break your back’. Some of the world’s most talented street artists are putting the old saying to the test as they create one-off pieces in our city streets. At the cutting edge of 3D pavement art is German artist Edgar Müller. His creations transform everyday locations into fantastical scenes: sharks erupting from pavements, chasms bisecting suburban streets and rivers cascading through towns. These unique perspectives of our city streets are fantastic examples of the reinterpretation of the use-value of space – the road/pavement becomes a canvas for artistic expression.
As PR and advertising agencies strive to stay on top of the latest trends and marketing methods, it is of no surprise that such a fantastic and original canvas be used by brands to advertise their product from – literally – a unique perspective (the visual impact of this 3D art is only effective from one standpoint). As well as creating striking pieces of art, Müller offers his services to brands and was commissioned to create such a piece for the launch of Ice Age 3 in cinemas:
The fantastic thing about this form of art is that it demonstrates the importance of offering a unique perspective for every brand we work with and through whatever medium we are using, whilst ensuring it is engaging to the consumer.
