Guest post from Leah!
Last week saw the start of Christmas with Bieber flicking the switch at Westfield, a rather eclectic cocktail of celebs (Bill Nighy, Kelly Clarkson , Emma Bunton and Matt Cardle to name but a few…) help illuminate Regent’s Street and, of course, our very own Covent Garden Christmas switch-on last night.
Whilst I may be somewhat biased, the enchanting surroundings and honest festive atmosphere last night was, for me, enough to beat any hyped-up celeb appearance. The London Gay Men’s Chorus did a fantastic job in leading the festivities, or ‘campery’ as they called it, with bundles of wit and charm that was just the trick to get the crowd going!
Their version of ‘Let It Snow!’ was made all the more magical by the turning of the disco balls in the market place, recreating the effect of falling snow right across the piazza: a simple yet breathtakingly effective idea.
Indeed, the photo below beautifully captures the genuine awe of the crowd, as the lights lit up the ginormous tree and the ‘snow’ began to fall. Last night Covent Garden Christmas proved that unique and magical decorations, a good old Christmas sing-song, complimented by tasty mulled cider is the best recipe for Christmas cheer.
